Lesson 12: Walkers
Overview
The Walkers curriculum is designed for one-year-olds – children who are beginning to explore their environment, understand 
simple routines, and respond to familiar people and ideas. At this age, children are forming categories about God, the Bible, and church. The Walkers curriculum intentionally introduces these concepts through repetition, hands-on engagement, music, and short, developmentally appropriate Bible lessons.
The curriculum is called “I Know My Bible Basics” because it lays foundational truths about God, His creation, His love, and His Word. It introduces toddlers to the idea that the Bible is a special book that teaches us about the one true God and how much He cares for them.
A One-Year Curriculum
The Walkers curriculum follows its own one-year Scope & Sequence and contains 53 lessons, allowing teachers to use one lesson per week for the entire year.
The lessons incorporate predictable patterns and repeat core ideas in slightly different ways, helping toddlers grow in awareness of who God is, what He has made, and how the Bible teaches us about Him.
In addition to the lessons, the curriculum also includes:
- A list of recommended worship songs
- A collection of printable resources for activities, crafts, and lesson visuals
- Seasonal holiday lessons – four Christmas and four Easter lessons
- A customizable weekly schedule, which you can personalize and give to leaders
Topical Lessons
The lesson themes are short, simple, repetitive, and rooted in foundational truths about God and His Word. The syllabus is undated so churches can adapt it to meet their unique needs.
Key themes include:
- God made the world (sky, land, sea, flowers, animals, people, etc.)
- God is with me throughout the day
- The Bible is ____ (a special book, a letter to me, Good News, true, etc.)
- God loves ____ (me, my family, the people at church, etc.)
- Friendship
- Prayer
- Christmas
- Easter
The Walkers curriculum begins introducing the Discovery Land 4 Rights structure in each lesson, using:
Know Right – a short truth about God or the Bible
Think Right – a short (or paraphrased) memory verse
Do Right – a simple action or response
This early introduction prepares them for the more fully developed 4 Rights structure they will experience in the Runners, Preschool, and Elementary curricula.
Lesson Structure
Each Walkers lesson is organized around a simple, predictable routine that will help young children feel safe, calm, and ready to learn.
- Coming In Time – children enjoy free play as they settle in
- Clean Up – children help clean up before transitioning to the lesson
- Worship Time – this includes suggested songs, prayer, review of the Think Right memory verse, and a brief review of Bible basics
- Bible Lesson – this includes a short list of supplies/props and a lesson outline for the teacher; the lessons are brief, but biblically accurate and interactive – perfect for one-year-olds’ attention spans
- Craft or Activity – printable resources are provided to reinforce the lesson in an engaging, hands-on way
- Snack and Review – children eat together while the teacher asks review questions
- Free Play – children return to playtime as parents arrive for pick up
What Makes the Walkers Curriculum Special
Although young, toddlers are like sponges – absorbing what they hear and see in their environment. This curriculum helps children:
- Feel safe, loved, and cared for by consistent adult leaders
- Form positive associations with God, the Bible, and church
- Hear foundational biblical truths repeated in meaningful ways
- Discover that God made them, loves them, and is always with them
- Begin to build the earliest habits of worship, prayer, and learning from God’s Word
