Lesson 7: The Top 12 Verses

There are twelve key verses continuously woven throughout the DL curriculum; these are called the “Top 12.”

By choosing twelve key verses, our hope is that students will:

Memorize them
Understand their meaning
Confidently apply them to real-life situations, such as sharing the Gospel, feeling afraid, or their faith being tested

These verses are introduced early on – you can think of kids learning the Top 12 like stacking building blocks. A few verses are taught in Runners (the 2-year-old curriculum), we add several more in Preschool, and by the time students graduate from Discovery Land, they are able to recite all twelve verses, understand what they mean, and apply them to life.

The Think Right verse is often one of the Top 12, and you will see these verses woven into other parts of the program: questions during the pre-service and end-of-class review games, Discover Time activities, classroom resources, etc.

There are SO many verses in Scripture – we have tried to identify twelve that fit well with the curriculum and are easy for kids to memorize, understand, and put into action. Five of these verses are included in the Wordless Book, the tool we use to share the Gospel with kids.
