Lesson 9: Person-to-Person Discipleship
Person-to-person discipleship is an important part of the Discovery Land program. We teach God’s Word through God’s people. The Holy Spirit doesn’t reside in curriculum – He dwells in people! The DL curriculum is a tool providing the framework, but the people are what make it effective.
What does person-to-person discipleship look like in practice when using the DL curriculum?
- All elements of the curriculum are designed to be led by a real, live person! We want teachers who can look kids in the eye as they teach to gauge understanding, and then adapt, clarify, and elaborate where needed.
- We intentionally do not use videos to teach the Bible. Kids already spend plenty of time on screens. Instead, we want them to experience the joy of learning God’s Word face-to-face from caring leaders who know and love them.
Consistent volunteers are essential! We encourage directors to build a team of leaders who are committed to serve faithfully and regularly. Through this, kids build relationships with adults who are invested in their spiritual growth, and the leaders build friendships and find accountability with each other. The church family becomes stronger when people serve together.
